First Pics of My Danny Hines Hardtail Stratocaster Body

Danny Hines just sent me these pics of my new custom two-color sunburst hardtail Strat body! He does the nitro finish himself and has been slowed down a bit by the crazy cold winter we are having this year, but I should have it soon. He said he still has a bit of touch up before applying the final clears. Can’t wait and will keep you posted!

Orange Micro Crush

What did you get for Christmas? My lovely girlfriend gave me this sweet little Orange Micro Crush. Looks awesome, right? Totally retro cool and portable 3 watt amp with a 4 inch speaker powered by a 9 volt battery. It also has a tuner. So how does it sound? You get a fairly clean sound if you leave it on clean and a very raunchy Orange distorted sound on Overdrive. And it does go fairly loud. All in all, it sounds a little less like a toy than my Fender Mini ’57 Twin amp but nowhere near as nice as my Yamaha THR10C (10 watts with two 3.15 inch speakers). So I’d say it’s still a toy–but an affordable, fun, portable toy and the tuner is a real plus. More pics after the jump!

Original Fuzz Guitar Strap

The guys at Original Fuzz recently sent me one of their ultra-cool guitar straps to try out. It is made of high quality cotton webbing and leather with heavy-duty stitching and metal hardware. Mine is a very classy tan color and looks great with my Inca Silver Robert Cray Strat. It is much nicer than the standard cheap nylon stuff and would make a great stocking stuffer for your guitarist pals. And if you want to go whole hog they just introduced some handwoven Peruvian straps as well. Check ’em out!

Strobel Rambler Guitar Packed and Ready

I’m heading to LA on business early next week and decided to see just how well my Strobel Rambler fit into my suitcase. When I came back from my visit to Strobel Guitars in Florida last month I transported the Rambler in the padded case that it comes with. But this time I want to take it in my suitcase, so I took it apart and tossed it in. Now, this is the small suitcase that I usually travel with and it’s less than the 45 linear inches that airlines allow for carry-on. You can see just how well and easily the Rambler fit in–lots of room left for clothing! Oh, and breaking it down was a snap–took me two minutes, tops! Stay tuned for more…
