Yamaha THR10C

Ok I was pretty set on getting a Fender Super Champ X2 this summer but then I heard about these things. There is a whole series of them–Yamaha started with the small THR5 and bigger THR10 last year, then added the THR10X for people who want more gain and distortion and the THR10C for people who want clean tones. I like it pretty clean so I think this one is for me. I actually like the size and color (and price) of the THR5 better, but the 10s have a separate volume control for the AUX in for when you want to use it to play music, so that it probably worth the extra $100.

Anyway, I play in my living room a lot and think this would be better than having a another bigger Fender amp for everyone to trip over. Plus I can use it to play music in the kitchen while cooking, bring it camping, etc.

Repairing a Drill Hold in My Stratocaster

My “new” 2001 MIM Strat came to me with a 1/8th inch drill hole in the front (it was drilled by the previous owner for a midi pickup). I wanted to fix it without a ton of effort, spending a bunch of money or making it worse. I posted over on Strat Talk and got some good advice. Then I got some wood glue, a toothpick and some nail polish and had at it. Came out pretty good for $2. More pics after the jump!

How To Solder Your Guitar

Ok, so now that I have two Fenders and one cheap Chinese Tele, I think it’s time to take the Chinese Tele apart and put it back together. And maybe even try some soldering, too. What do you think? This video makes it look fairly straightforward.

My New Craigslist 2001 MIM Standard Stratocaster

Picked this up two weeks ago off Craigslist for $200. The seller bought it new at Guitar Center in 2001, drilled two small holes in the pickguard and one in the body for a midi, then never played it. It’s in great shape and I love the neck (doesn’t seem as glossy as the newer ones). I had been debating new MIM vs new American Standard but this was too good of a deal to pass up. My first Strat.
